Editing Video Clips in iMovie

Have you ever included a story from a conference talk or other video clip in your lesson but found it difficult to queue up the right part and then jump up to quickly turn it off at the end of the story or thought you only wanted to show? There is a way to download the video into a movie editor like iMovie and cut it down to just the part you need. I will show you how to do your editing in iMovie.

Find your video online.
www.lds.org has a media library with General Conference videos and other digital resources to use in lessons.

Select your video and download it  Choose what size works for you. I like the medium size.

Click on the downloaded file at the bottom of your screen to open it.

Click on "Save" and rename it. Choose where you want it saved to. Then select "Save"

Open iMovie

Select the plus sign at the top left to open a new project. Choose a blank theme.

Once your new project is opened, Click on the "Import Media" arrow. Search for your file on your computer and after selecting it, click on the blue import button.

Click on your video clip to highlight it. A yellow box should appear around it. Once highlighted, drag it down to the timeline (the workspace).

My moving this arrow, you can spread out the video into a longer segment that is easier to work with.

Click on the video in your timeline. A yellow boarder will appear around it. Click on the play button on the upper right part of your screen. Pause the video when you get to the point where you want your clip to begin.

Move your cursor to the yellow line at the beginning of your video. Click on the yellow line and drag it to the line where your video was paused.

Continue playing your video. Pause it at the place where you want it to end. Click on your video again to highlight it. Grab the yellow line at the end of your video and drag it to the line where you paused the video. You just created your clip!

Click on "file" and then "share". At the bottom of that pull-down menu, select "file". Save your new video with a different name than your original video. The file will save as an mp4 file.

Congrats! You did it!
